Families from across the region gathered on Saturday, June 14th for the Second Annual Fishing Derby hosted by State Senator Neil Anderson (R-Andalusia) and Representative Norine Hammond’s (R-Macomb) at Giant Goose Ranch.
The event drew dozens of young kids and their families for a morning of fishing, friendly competition, and outdoor fun.
“It’s always great to see families spending time together in nature, especially when kids are learning new skills and making memories,” said Senator Anderson. “This kind of event is what community is all about.”
Located at an 840-acre recreational playground in Canton featuring more than 50 lakes and ponds, trails and camping, Giant Goose Ranch served as an ideal location for this event.
“We’re fortunate to have a place like this in our district,” said Representative Hammond. “It’s encouraging to see such a strong turnout and so many families taking part in the day.”
The first 50 kids at this year’s event received a complimentary fishing rod/reel combo courtesy of Wildlife Forever. The Illinois Conservation Police also gave a water/boat safety presentation. Awards handed this year were for the biggest fish, most fish caught and sportsman award.
