State Senator Neil Anderson has released the below statement following the Senate passage of Senate Bill 1720 – a supplemental budget bill that gives legislators pay raises and provides the Governor with a $400 million slush fund:
“Fiscal responsibility doesn’t exist in the state of Illinois and this vote was just another example of politicians lining their own pockets while residents continue to suffer from high taxes and monetary mismanagement. While millions of people are suffering from inflation costs, legislators are giving themselves a 17 percent pay raise.
“Worse yet, the Governor was provided with nearly a half a billion-dollar slush fund, calling it a ‘business closing fund,’ which allows him to close deals with certain businesses that fit his agenda without any sort of legislative approval.
“This is an insult to the hard-working people of our state.”
