Sen. Anderson hosts high schoolers at Capitol for Youth Advisory Council

Nearly 40 high school students from across State Sen. Neil Anderson’s 36th Senate District traveled to Springfield on Wednesday, May 1, to participate in his annual Youth Advisory Council (YAC).

Sen. Anderson’s bi-annual YAC gives students a unique, up-close and hands-on perspective of what it would be like to work in various roles in state government.

“I look forward to this event every year, and I’m always impressed by the level of interest these students have in the legislative process,” said Sen. Anderson. “Their enthusiasm gives me hope that our future is in great hands.”

Sen. Anderson hosted the all-day Youth Advisory Council at the Capitol, where he talked with high school students from Erie, Moline, Morrison, Newman Catholic, Quad City Christian, Riverdale, Rock Falls, Rockridge, and United Township high schools about Illinois government and how the Legislature operates.

The students also visited the Senate Floor, heard from a wide variety of speakers, and participated in a mock committee hearing, where they represented the key players in the realm of public policy including senators, lobbyists, and concerned citizens.
