Money for new roof for Black Hawk College’s Building 1 on its way
One of Black Hawk College’s biggest buildings in dire need of a new roof will now get the much needed upgrade.
Under capital project money released Sept. 11 by the Illinois Office of Management and Budget, $237,640 will go toward replacing the roof. An additional $209,640 from local funds will help replace the HVAC system in Building 1.
Building 1’s roof is 50 years old and it leaks, which has caused interior and structural damage.
“Black Hawk College plays such an integral role in our community, offering students a tremendous education at an affordable price,” State Sen. Neil Anderson said. “I was proud to support the Fiscal Year 2019 budget that not only included more dollars for higher education, but critical investment dollars for capital improvements on our campuses. The dollars for Black Hawk are for critical repairs and improvements long overdue. They will ensure students have a comfortable learning environment in Building 1 for a long time.”
In total, $150 million is being invested in capital improvements for community colleges across the state.
